A weekend for any woman with a desire to explore her Creative Self through writing.
May 2 – 4th, 2008
The Rowe Center
Rowe, Massachusetts

- Maybe you keep a journal...
- Maybe you have a few short stories or poems tucked away in a drawer or notebook…
- Maybe you’ve never put pen to paper to record the stories or images playing in your mind. You’d love to try, but don’t know where or how to start.
- Then again, perhaps you’ve been writing for years. You might have a project in the works right now, but feel a bit stuck; you can feel your creative juices diminishing.
Whatever your story is... In Your Write Mind is a weekend retreat designed to nurture the writer within you. We’ll explore what it means to be in your “write mind” and how to get there. And, you’ll be encouraged and supported all the way.
Think you can’t write? We all have something to write about. Your life is full of interesting people, experiences, dreams and memories worth writing about. In this safe, non-judgmental environment, you will embark on a journey to your Creative Self, that sacred place within you where words and images lay silently waiting for a voice.
This weekend is NOT about grammar and punctuation. It IS about lovingly unleashing and honoring your creativity, about having the space, time and freedom to give voice to stories just waiting to be told; the opportunity for words and lines to fall into poems if that’s where they want to go. It is a time for authentic expression.
Writing is an adventure on which you will discover new and unexplored places within yourself. In Your Write Mind offers you a perfect opportunity to begin that exciting journey.
This inspiring weekend is for women who:
- Muriel Rukeyser
- .....wouldn't dream of calling themselves a writer
- .....DO dream of calling themselves a writer
- .....know the act of writing gives voice to the soul
- .....want to find out if they are any of the above!
Some of the topics we’ll cover:
- The importance of nurturing your creativity
- Idea catching
- The sacred act of writing
- Silencing the inner critic
There will be lots of time to write using special creative writing exercises to inspire you, as well as free writing. There will also be opportunity for soul-nourishing, creativity-nudging walks through the beautiful springtime woods. Perhaps a walk through the labyrinth will inspire you. Nature will be your muse.
At the end of this empowering weekend, you’ll leave with loads of tools and ideas to inspire your writing and a desire to get into your “write mind” as often as possible!
Throw away your pre-conceived ideas about who can write. This is a weekend to have fun and allow your inner Creative Writing Goddess to show what she can do!
In Your Write Mind is also the perfect opportunity for journal writers to enhance their practice by trying a different method of expressing themselves.
No prior writing experience is necessary for this writing weekend.
Maggie is so inspiring. She helped me to unleash creativity I had forgotten was in me. She helped me tap into my authentic self. Betty
I came to this retreat to follow my intuition and to honor a dream. Sidled up to the sea, with loving guidance and the supportive energy that evolved, I wrote through to the joy and humor on the other side of my fear. I was reacquainted with truth. Barb
Maggie's Writing Retreat pulls you out of writing paralysis, gets juices
flowing you never knew you had, and to your total amazement, has you producing one piece after another. I counted a dozen I completed that weekend!
Reading our stories to each other was great, too. The "voice" of the piece
comes alive, in a safe atmosphere of caring and talented (if not published) writers.
In Your Write Mind is not an editing session, but an incubator allowing your skill and talent to be nurtured and grow at its own pace. I will go back whenever Maggie offers these. Sibyl
I’ve gone to more than a few writing workshops in Prague, Ireland, Seattle, but never one run by a muse with the tools to motivate my writing in so many different directions. I left “In Your Write Mind” feeling like I’d been worked over by a dancing Minerva. Maggie Butler’s insightful, informed, and stimulating approach to awakening creativity was the reason behind the success of this gratifying workshop. Marilyn Mc.

Rowe is located in Northwestern Massachusetts, four miles from the Vermont border. It is off Route 2, 25 miles west of Greenfield and 25 miles east of Williamstown. We are within an hour's ride of Bennington, Brattleboro, Amherst, Northampton, and Pittsfield, two hours from Fitchburg, Hartford and Albany, three hours from Boston and New Haven and 4-5 hours from NYC.
We are about 1500 feet above sea level in the Berkshire Mountains on 40 acres of land almost surrounded by a 1400 acre town park and wildlife preserve. The park is held in trust "forever wild" and includes miles of trails (which are fine for cross-country skiing), two mountains and a lake.
